Several 20+ inch smallies in Bayley Bay over the years and decent walleye, and of course pike. Also some 20+ inch largemouth in Sunday Bay if you don't mind thick weeds....have tried for lakers a couple times but yet to snag any....

Never fished. But as mentioned - Bayley Bay has perhaps the most wind conducive canoe issues in all the BWCA/Q. That and parts of LLC. Gunflint imo is not even close. SAG probably 3rd. I too have spent several nights at the sand beach leading from Burke waiting for it to calm down.

Big bay and deep. Like myelf everyone is in a hurry to get into the interior of Quetico. Has anyone even fished it-ever?

I usually don't start fishing till I hit the wind bay area. I have on several times kinda tracked deep water on the borders edge ,trolling for lakers. To no avail.
Plan on hitting rice bay this year.

Supposed to have trout...I usually troll through...no trout but there are fish.

T" Bayley Bay is 100 feet deep and Quetico DNR said it has lake trout. I am sure it is actually pretty good fishing for smallmouth and walleye. Just everybody is going to their destination lakes and the east side of Bayley is probably the most dangerous spot in canoe country for its winds, especially the south westerly. A few have drowned and many more have tipped. Sat at the nice sand beach waiting for wind die downs before.

Not much of the bay is currently accessible to folks from the US, correct? The vast majority of the deep water looks to be on the Canadian side?

I have fished it a number of times. Not hard though. Usually I’m a few hours early for a tow back and will hit the shorelines for bass. Always caught some.

I meant I haven’t caught a trout...yet...
I think we have all been stuck on that beach from time to time. Camped on that beach in 2016 with probably 4-5 other groups..never seen waves like that. Although it looks tame in my picture.

You get those big rollers in the bay. It is one nice beach and resting area tho.

It doesn't get fished very hard in the summer with all of the motor boats blasting by on their way to Wind Bay/Washington Island. As others have mentioned, it is almost always tough to fish in a canoe due to the wind from the NW. There water is definitely deep enough for lakers. there are a few reefs just off beaver Island I have heard are productive for all species and that North-Facing shoreline has to be great for smallmouth and walleye, especially when those winds pick up.
If you are into a long hike, you can enter at Moose and hike/ski/snowshoe and be on bailey bay in about 6-7 miles. There is a winter use trail through Found and Manomin, but it is tough going once you leave Found.
I think next winter I'll try to do a trek into Bailey to chase Lakers, just couldn't make it happen this year. My plans were ruined by -50 degree temps on my three day weekend...
