Most people just blow by these spots, cause they're ready to get going. 1st is straight out from the canoe landing by the ramp.Rocky area. That 1st drop off I've had many a audience watching me catch fish there. The 2nd is straight across from there to the island that has the BWCA boundary sign on it. Go the the NE tip. Rocky area that extends out a ways. Find the drop off and BAM.... I like these areas because you can fish til nearly dark and not be far from the ramps. As you move down the right side of the lake from there , there is I lone tree sticking out of the water. Move into shore there and there is a small stream off incoming water. Good area to throw some crank baits. Have a good trip. |

If you see bugs in the water, I've had luck in the back bay on Moose, which is basically the most southwest portion of the chain. It's mostly a mud bottom back there and its a nice flat about 8-12 feet deep. I would try back there with leeches on a lindy rig or slip bobber. I also have had success by going into the bigger bays that receive wind action, these areas tend to warm first and will attract good amounts of eater sized fish. If you can fish at dusk or night, I have had success throwing slip bobbers anywhere I can find nice sized flats that are 6-12 feet deep roughly located near big deep water on the main lake bodies. These flats often occur between neighboring islands. If you look at the navionics web app it should give you good contours of the lake. If trolling, my best luck has been using natural colors (gold, silver) jointed rapalas, f13s. I let out a ton of line (80-100 feet) and put a couple split shots a few feet up from the lure (depending on depth). If you can make the portage to basswood, fish the falls too. |
