If you end up going up to Grand Marais I can let you in on a couple of Good lakes to hit for Rainbows

Trout lake near Kimball is almost always a sure bet for rainbows , Leo near Hungry Jack, and Mink especially if it’s raining out is good .

I'm looking for rainbows around grand marais too! I'd be happy to hear of any spots.

Yes- I might head to the Grand Marais area and would love any tips you have! I couldn't find your email though.

Try Tofte.
Or miners lake right in Ely.

Hi friends,

Am considering going up to the Ely area over May 29 weekend and possibly the first week of June. Looking for a lake to target Rainbow Trout that I can eat a few and do some canoe camping. Willing to go into the BWCA but know that permits are basically gone by now, so maybe something just outside the BWCA with camping sites? Or is there another lake that fits the bill but targeting walleye or something else? Could also go in through Grand Marais or wherever really. Any tips would be appreciated, thank you!

You can do better than rainbows. Drive down to Bear Head Lake State Park and catch yourself some gorgeous and delectable brook trout out of little Cub Lake.

I get what you're saying, but, hey, no raining on Woodsman's parade! The sudden strike of a trout is a heart-stopper, no matter the color. #RTMatter.

Tofte Lake is full of rainbows, and has several campsites on the lake.

They'll be biting, likely, in whichever lakes you choose. There are some good ones on the Gunflint side as well. Good luck!

I did okay- got a few decent size and one pretty big one Rainbow. The big one even jumped up and fought like heck! Sure was fun. Thanks all!

I’ve found that large Rainbows fight almost like a Bass. It’s not uncommon for them to jump multiple times. I only caught one Rainbow last weekend but I did catch a nice Splake.

Twin lakes has them. Not sure if the campsites get used a lot or not.

Thanks! What should I be using to catch them? Which part of the lake?
