My son and I fished Horseshoe on Saturday, and Gaskin/horseshoe on Sunday, and struggled to catch fish. We tried top water along shore, primarily on the south arm of Horseshoe, and that produced 2 little pike. We fished around the caribou portage and caught 2 small walleye. Gaskin produced 1 walleye on a mid lake hump, where it came up from 60 feet to 10 feet. We fished with both leeches and minnows, and neither produced much.

We talked to alot of other people that were fishing, and it was slow for everyone we talked to. A group of 8, had caught 4 Pike in 4 days on Gaskin. I think that cold snap shut her down. I was listening to Kfan Outdoors on Thursday, and apparently water temps had been in the high 60's, and when I was checking they were in the low 60's. So the water temps dropped several degrees. But Horseshoe is really shallow, so it was probably more affected than some.

We didn't see any moose on horseshoe, but other groups saw quite a few on both Caribou and Gaskin.

FYI When we were exiting on Memorial Monday, there was an older gentleman and his wife entering Caribou for a day trip. He has been guiding Mid-Gunflint lakes for many many years. "Little Vince's Guide Service" Vince Ekroot 218-388-9942. If you're camping on Caribou, he said he would come to you.

I asked him what his plan was with the cold snap, he said he was going to start by fishing for walleyes in 2 or 3 ft of water. I thought that was interesting.
