I have mostly been looking for smallmouth and walleye. I see that I let that question a little open ended. that is my biggest problem with this area that there is so many options as a new fisherman out here its a little overwhelming at the start.

Two Island Lake, not far from Grand Marais, good smallie and walleye fishing, and a campground there to stay at if you are so inclined.

Any ideas or help would be most appreciated, Thanks "

paddler or motorboat? prefer to target walleye, pike, bass, or lake trout? So many options up the Gunflint Trail, both in and just out of the BWCA. A little more info and I'd be glad to share some ideas."

Also Ill be paddling i have a 10Ft Flycraft inflatable

I'd find rivers and lakes inside the national forest. I've been kind of eyeing those (and bigger ones like the smithfly big shoals), but I have a canoe that I don't spend enough time in as it is... Anyways, the oars are not allowed in the BWCA due to mechanical advantage from the oarlocks. A canoe or kayak paddle would be allowed, but I don't know how well it would work. Otherwise, since you're local, look up any body of water that piques your interest on Lakefinder and you can get general information as well as fisheries survey results.

Brule lake is where I wish I could spend more time fishing. We have always done very well there on eyes, northern and bass.

If I take a group up that wants to fish, that’s the lake we head too.

Big waters, Big fish

Thanks for the heads up about the oars being a no go i would have never guessed that but those smith flys are great little boats and i absolutely love my fly craft. only down side is getting on any substantial body of water your at the mercy of the wind but a trolling motor fits great on those.

I've heard Flour Lake has a nice campground and good bass fishing. My uncle and cousins spend a week there every summer.

Ric-
Fish the lakes along The Grade and nearby. Also, dig up the trout stocking info from the Mn DNR and fish those 'put and take' lakes.

Rick since you have moved into the area , time to invest in a real canoe , whether it's a solo or tandem , and as Lundo stated go to mnlakefinder.com do some research with stocking and netting reports , but keep in mind some reports can be very vague , one never knows how much time they were able to stay on any given lake.
