thegildedgopher: "Very smart idea and I’m shocked nobody has done this before now. Any serious angler in the market for a canoe will be forced to consider this — not just for rod holders but transducer and fish finder mounts as well. This really simplifies things compared to some of the self-engineered solutions I’ve seen. Fishing Kayaks have been doing this for years. They are called rails. Any T bolt mount will work on these. My Old Town 132 Kayak has 8 rails on it. I have 2-paddle holders, 2- tie downs, rod holder, 7” chartplotter Side scan sonar mount, anchor cleats, GoPro pole mount.I might have missed it but this is the first time I’ve seen them on a canoe. Totally agree this would be a key feature in any future canoe I would get. |

For trolling in the bwca using a knee to hold the rod has the advantage of not bringing extra gear. However, depending on the focus of the trip a rod holder might be nice. Have you all heard about the VersiGunwale from Wenonah? It allows mounting of popular rail based rod holders to the canoe. A video showing the VersiGunwale. (Also if you watch the video closely, are they trolling us with the tiny little rod? How would you like to land a big bwca smallie or pike with that rod and reel combo?) This seems like a nice option to me. I already have some Scotty Rod Holders and mounts in some of my canoes. The only question is what adapter fits in the rail to hold the rod holder? |

Can’t believe that’s the only rod they had on hand though! |
