It's been awhile but when you leave the landing at the end of the portage head to your left and you should find some moving water that has always produced walleye and smallies. Good luck!

Great minds think alike! Good to know that Little Gabbro might be a good fishing spot. Any tips on catching walleye or smallies this time of year? If that water by the portage is not producing, do you have another part of Little Gabbro or Gabbro I should target? I do not plan on bringing live bait in so any plastics or other recommendations would be appreciated- thank you!

I’d consider Isabella Lake. Walleyes are not big but you should have good luck. There are also some decent Northern in there as well.

Hi friends,

I am thinking about heading up for a last paddle trip before ice sets in. Does anyone know of a good fishing spot not too far into the BWCA for the weekend of October 30 or Nov 6? I am open to catching anything. Still learning how to fish properly so any tips would be appreciated as well, thanks!

*Just to clarify, I was looking at heading into Little Gabbro but can easily head to Gabbro or elsewhere if there will be decent fishing anywhere. Am hoping the crowds will be low at that time of year so would love to find a campsite near good fishing. Thanks again friends

One quick note: I might head into Little Gabbro as that has been on my list to hit for some time now. Will there be any decent fishing there? Open to other suggestions as well. Thanks!

Hi egknuti, do you still think Isabella would be good for walleyes this weekend? Would I find eaters? What would be best to find them- slip bobber and leech? Any specific part of the lake?

Would not have any issues with ice in right? Thanks!!

You'll find many pros tout November as being the best time of year to throw a lipless crankbait at big bass in deeper water. Topwater lures like stickbaits or buzzbaits will also still catch fish in some areas in November.
