This should get you all pumped for Lake Trout Opener! It's the best time of the year! We're only 13 days away from Lake Trout season opening up inside the BWCA. Enjoy this trip report from our trip up the Gunflint at the end of the hard water season last year!
Late Ice Lake Trout

Man you’d have to be lazy to need an ATV or sled on that little section of Clearwater.

Another great video!
I was on that lake this fall, and I think I may have been fishing the exact same spot. It was great for us too.
West Pike is a haul to get to from the east side, frequently fighting the wind, but it's worth the effort. It's on my top 10 for sure.
Thanks again for the videos. They consistently hit the bullseye for what I'm into.

Nice video Eric. Glad to see you experiencing "the other side."
Question -- at the Clearwater access, did I see an empty snowmobile trailer in the video, and some tracks on the lake? Did you happen to note if they actually went past the wilderness boundary? There isn't great fishing on that small end of the lake in my experience. Seeing that packed lot was kinda bothersome to me.

I'd prefer that didn't happen. Most fishing shows are glorified advertisements these days.

The guys out fishing near the landing on the motorized size of Clearwater did have side-by-sides, and they stayed out of the BWCA. We did see snowmobile tracks inside the wilderness on the East side of Clearwater and on the US side of Mountain. The tracks on Clearwater could have been Forest Service or DNR, but it is hard to say-they were at least a few days old. The tracks on the U.S. side of Mountain were like from someone on the Canadian side, as I don't think you could get a snowmobile up and over that portage into Mountain.
