I have the GPS chart plotter version, Echomap, of the same head unit that I used in my motorboat. Since I already had it, I got the ice fishing kit to try using it in the canoe. It works well, but it's heavy. I can't decide if I'm going to spend more and get a Lithium battery for weight saving or just not bother using it.

I can't comment on downloading maps as my headunit is different.

I have one. Use the ice ducer for ice fishing and the regular ducer for paddling.

No--you can't download maps. But you they do allow you to chart your lake in memory. That is pretty slick.

I am considering one of these for this year. Has anyone used one? It seems like it can be used for GPS as well as depth/fish sonar. Can maps be downloaded to it? Garmin Striker 4 Portable Fishfinder and GPS

I have a Garmin Striker 4. I bought it to replace an old model for the BWCAW. I used it for one year but went back to my old model. The only problem I had was the GPS and color were very hard on batteries. I use an 8 battery AA pack. My old one will last all week, and the Striker 4 lasted about 2 days.
