My first trip was the Lady Chain. It is a beautiful area and I would highly recommend it. 4 days is a good length for that. Wine is fine, but that is a long portage and pretty remote. No walleye either from my understanding.
Burnt is busier and there isn't really anywhere else you could go from there. I like the Lady Chain because there are more options and bigger lakes. On my first trip, we didn't see anyone after the Alton-Beth portage until we were leaving. If you want to catch northern, bass, and walleye then this is the route.

Few years ago we outfitted through Sawbill. Sawbill dropped us at Brule n came down the Temperance chain through Burnt Smoke n Flame. It was second week in May. Beautiful, fairly easy n the Bass were just turning on. Caught walleyes as well jigging bottom. Most of the bass were deeper crank baits n silver spoons. Walleye were on white leadheads n perch plastic bodies or white minnow bodies. The rock walls produced the most bass in the gorge. Sawbill outfitters will mark your maps for you with the best spots. Yes I have. I've taken a lot of trips out of Sawbill. Your entry dates should be prime laker fishing and Wine and Frost are both good ones.

Spent week on the northern part of Sawbill. Was told that walleyes were hot and caught on anything. I should have known from there what our luck would be. No walleyes were caught by us on Sawbill June 6-8. Leeches and cranks offered. Slips and trolling. Headed over to Kelso to get some northerns. Bingo. Caught enough for a couple meals.
Others fishing the same part had the same luck.

Hey all! Looking for advice. I have an entry permit for May 19th through Sawbill. It’s my first time through this entry. Which direction would provide the best fishing? East through smoke/burnt/flame? West through the Lady chain? Cherokee to the North doesn’t seem to hold bass and walleye, per the DNR lake finder site. We will be out 4 days. Mainly catch and release for bass and Northerns. Will have some live bait along to toss a bobber out as well. Anyone have specific lakes or spots they love in those areas? Thanks for any info provided!
