The post about the Garmin striker and other portables made me want to post what I use. I have tried vexilar flashers, graphs, gps units and cant stand the bulk, the wires, and the transducer so about 3 years ago I switched to a marcum LX I. It shoots right thru the hull of a kevlar boat, gives accurate depth readings, marks fish, has an internal battery that will last a month, and comes in a case with a belt clip for easy portaging. Its designed to shoot thru the ice and is the size of a flashlight, completely waterproof and if you drop it overboard it floats.

I have one and there's a guy in our group who will always ask me if I'd bring it for him to use. Serves as a backup that way, too. Simple, compact, lightweight, forever battery life. Best part is the top-mounted display, vs the side view on a similar device from Vexilar. I do get annoyed by how loud it is - transducer ticking seems much louder than others, and there's a depth and/or fish alarm that doesn't seem to have a way to silence. Turns itself off a little too quickly, also. Yours looks like a newer model; maybe those behaviors have been improved upon.
Here, I show it shooting through a ziploc-type sandwich bag filled with a little water and no air bubbles. Looks like I propped it up a bit with a day pack to keep it upright along the edge of the hull to avoid the floatation foam.

It's heavy enough and weighted mostly toward the transducer end to stay quite stable in most conditions. 2 lbs?
