Hello All,
Me and my cousins are planning a trip to sawbill and up a ways into the BWCA May24-28. Does any experienced fisherman know when the ice will most likely be off? And will fishing for the four major species (bass, trout, walleye, and northern) be affected? I heard rumors the ice is usually off mide may and that fishing is great around the time we are planning our trip.

Hi Slice,

Several conversations on the message boards about ice-out predictions. I'm not an expert on ice-out so I'll leave that to the other message boards. I am watching the ice for trip north of Sawbill a few days before yours...I'm a little concerned ice won't be out enough for us to make it into Lizz/Swamp. Keep watching the weather and the updates.

Usually your dates are great times to be fishing! If the ice is out this year, you should do really well. I suggest you search the trip reports for sawbill - lots of good info there. You'll also find some sawbill, and nearby lakes, fishing reports and discussions on old message board conversations.

Hope you get into some great fishing!
