Never too cold for leeches in the BWCA in my opinion...and way more hearty than minnows.

Leeches esp early. NO QUESTION.

If I have a choice between the two I will choose leeches every time. The leeches will curl up if you have then in a container and then put them in the cold water. The leeches are not all balled up in a leech bag left in the water. But sometimes they twist all around the hook and line. Not a big deal for me. Still way better than dealing with minnows.

I saw somewhere that someone said the water was currently too cold for leeches and to use minnows instead. Anyone, smarter than me which isn't a high bar, know anything about this? We go in on the 29th at LIS North and am heading to Slim and over to Gun and Trygg. Mainly targeting smallies and trout of various kinds, but wouldn't mind getting into some 'eyes and crappie too.

I hate "me too" responses--but me too!

I ordered a pound of live leaches online Tuesday, got them via UPS Wednesday and they are packed and ready to go tomorrow for my trip.

Definitely leeches on a BWCA trip. Minnows can be great for sure, but leeches are the way to go in the BWCA.

Leeches 10x on BWCA trips in a canoe.

If I was in a boat and staying in a house or cabin overnight...then minnows have their place. Not in canoe/portage country

Did I read this right? 1 day shipping for 1lb of leeches... shipped to your door? I had no idea this existed, and am extremely intrigued. Is this something youve done previously?

Would you be willing to share the site?

Leeches all the way.

In regard to getting leeches online I would think they would be pricey? How much for a pound? I know one of our bwca.com goals is to support the outfitters and I must say that I haven't found a better deal for a pound of leeches than at the outfitters.
