In the good ole days there where many resorts and some cabins on the lake. One of the resort workers ran a wooden launch (boat) up on the reef in a storm, the launch sank. He spent the night standing on the reef. Word got out about the mishap and a couple of guys from another resort put a rocking chair on the reef. That way the next time he sank a boat there he could sit and wait for a rescue.
I remember a chair on the reef more then 50 years ago.

I don’t know if that story is true or not, but it’s still awesome!

Good Morning!
I am wondering if anyone has the GPS coordinates to Rocking chair reef? I have a spot marked on my handheld and I want to make sure that is the correct one. I appreciate any help!

Basswood. I know where it is. I don't have GPS coordinates. Maybe I can get close on a map for you. It is about 700 feet ESE from campsite 1588. Do you know the story how the reef got named?

This?
I'm not sure the campsite marking that's in Google Earth is right but the reef shows up on most historic images.
