Over the years, have noticed many inquiries about obtaining minnows and night crawlers for use in the BWCA. Crawlers are pretty easy to obtain and preserve. They are often over looked for use as the Summer wears on. Minnows can be trapped. Probably very near where you are camped or located. Look for a small bog just a short portage off the lake you are fishing. Often there will be a good landing spot on the shore and worn trail to the trapping area. I could probably locate a couple on Seagull and Brule Lakes. You need a $10 two piece wire trap and about 15 feet of light rope. Almost any bait will do, including a slice of bread. Wait to see if you attract minnows, run the trap and put it back to check the following day or two. There are certain regulations, like having your name and address posted on the trap. It is easy and I am surprised that more don't try it. Be sure to abide by the laws.
