These are my go to walleye plastics now. Had never been much of a plastics guy for walleye but these work very well. We like the 3.25 " chartreuse orange core the best but I'm sure other colors would work too.

A couple years ago I stumbled upon them and tried them on a lake in the Boundary waters and the walleyes crushed them. That trip was the end of May and I'm guessing the post spawn feeding frenzy. In two days my brother and I caught probably 20 Walleyes between 24 and 29" and a bunch of other 18 to 24 as well. We fished jigs and leeches some too but they wanted the plastic more by far.

When we fish plastic, it's just that and no leech. My son expressly told me no leech on the plastic. And a Moon Eye jig.
When it's just the leech, however, we love the slo poke jig. It seems to give great action. Just the bare jig in that situation.

Very true. But, I get the impression people fish the jig with only plastic where as I've always done all 3....jig/plastic/leech except for quetico w/o bait. Would you bother fishing without leech on your jig/plastic set up? Thanks!

All our walleyes on jigs last week on Knife were jig and rubber body, no leech.
We saved the leeches for slip-bobbering which out-fished the jig 4 to 1.
Hmmm... maybe we shoulda put a leech on that jig!

Ahh, I see your question... With the plastics I listed above I would absolutely not tip it with a leech ( along with the plastic). With a paddle tail or swimbait type plastic you would impede the action and you are imitating a minnow anyways. So, for those I would not use a leech in the set up. Now if I was fishing a ned rig, twister tail, or something with less action or substance I would consider tipping it with a leech along with the plastic.
We used to fish twister tails quite a bit for both bass and walleye and would tip them with live leeches and would do pretty well. However, we have refined our approach more since then and target species more specifically now. We typically save the live leeches for slip bobber fishing now. With us once in a while using them to tip a jig to just compare and contrast.
I should preface all this with saying that I would only have confidence fishing walleye with plastics in April and May to maybe the first week of June. After that my confidence would drop substantially. Not saying you could not catch them just my experience (I really have not fished plastics for walleye all that much) . We just really nailed them a could years ago at the end of May and that really opened my eyes to trying more.

yeah just a 1/4 or 1/8 oz regular ball jig head is fine. I don't buy much for fancy swim bait jig heads or anything like that.

Just returned from Russell Lake best producers were 3/8 oz jigs with white twister tails. Best locations were on the edges of moving water in ~10 FOW. Also good success with 3” shad raps that dive to about 8’.

We are heading to on Quetico June 18 and wondering what is a good plastic bait to use for walleye jigging? Long ago we used Mister Twister and it worked pretty well. But that was 25 years ago. There must be something better?

Don't splurge for the GULP, but if you want- the Powerbait is just as effective and doesn't dry out or stick to your jig like concrete. And much cheaper.

Those were the two styles we fished with. The pulse-R paddletail and the moxi versions both produced well for us. It definitely outfished a jig and a leech on the particular trip.

I just slow roll it back along the bottom or drag it if there is a slight wind for a drift. I have not experimented to much with any sort of snap jigging or anything more aggressive as I did not need to try anything else at that time.

BWff, that is interesting to hear and just confirms what we just saw. We were not rip jigging...someone cautioned against that in the early season. Instead it was just a twitch, pretty constant. Jigging is so much fun. I was pleased to see that we could still get action because the leeches always go way to fast on our trips....always worrying that I should have bought another pound....
