I’ve used them some. Used a fluke type minnow, or a gulp minnow. Didn’t use them a lot. For my wife and kids I set it up so they vertically fished them as we slowly drifted or a paddled slowly. My wife pulled a 20 inch Largemouth off a reef on Basswood.

I literally JUST packed my G Loomis (which I love) in the rod case for the trip before I sat down and read this thread. I’ve used Gulp leeches and minnows and caught plenty on the drop shot. For me, the good news is the pike don’t seem to want that little morsel for lunch so don’t have to worry too much about them biting it off. If you’re on the fish , it works just fine

Has anyone tried drop shotting in the BWCA? I just unearthed my G.Loomis Drop Shot/Finesse rod and thought it might be a good technique if I don’t know (or care to look up) the current depth. It could work on both Lake Trout and Walleye I’m assuming. I could set up the bait a specific depth off the bottom. Your thoughts and advice?

I use tin split shots for drop shotting. They tend to pull off when snagged (esp on braid) and if you don't mind having a loose end flopping around, you can move them up the line some to adjust depth.

I hate to admit it, but drop shotting was almost more effective than the TGO method last week on knife.
We did use leeches instead of plastics.

Scottie…we have the drop shot in our plans for next week. People catch so many fish with the slip bobber, we see no way the a drop shot won’t be a good option.

Don't see why not, just know you will probably lose a ton of drop shot weights but you'd also lose a fair amount of jigs also so its just a trade-off.
