I second the Bait King. It is far better than the Frabill Leech Tote. The Bait King screws on and stays closed. The Frabill can accidentally open up.
There are a few sizes. I generally get a pound and keep them in the small. As long as I keep them in the water they last.

Agree with the Bait King option. The screened top on the lid makes it easy to dump water on a portage and quickly, easily refill it at the next lake.

Get a bait king to store your leeches in when traveling. Every hour dump out the water and replace with fresh water. The bait king also works great if you base camp. Then when you want to go out fishing you remove only want you need for the day and put into a mesh bag on a piece of paracord tied to your canoe. It works best to get a mesh bag for each person so you don’t have to toss the mesh bag around.

I have never taken live bait into the BWCA but this year I am. I plan on taking leeches, but need info as far as how to care for them when paddling, portaging, and overnight. Also what type of container should I use?
Also, does anyone know if there is a bait shop in Tofte or nearby?

Use the search tool and look up Nalgene leech storage. They're pretty easy to keep alive if you pay attention.
