Heyfritty: "It seems given the precise measurements, that fish never swam again, which would be a shame. If that’s the case, I don’t know if I would make the same decision.

Fritty "
Since you will never catch a fish like that the point is moot

I truly meant that I don’t know what I would do. It would be an incredibly difficult decision. I’m not judging anyone’s decision, and I agree that he was probably more deserving than most.

Fritty "

Sorry if I overreacted. It just seems like there is always someone on these threads criticizing the angler for killing the fish. I jumped to the conclusion that you were being that person here. I just don't think it's "a shame," would rather just celebrate the angler in this scenario."

No problem. I took it as an opinion, not an attack.

You have to live with your decisions, he with his. Every fish dies at some point, this one lived longer than most. By the sound of the article the angler is deserving of the accomplishment. I'm not going to sit here and judge him for claiming a state record on a once-in-a-lifetime fish. (You typically can't get the record if you release the fish)"

I apologize thegildedgogher, my comment was intended for hayfritty. The dude caught a great fish, bigger than I have ever seen live, great work on his part.

Again, great fish.

Enjoy.

Thegildededgogher, wtf?"

I was just supporting the angler's right to keep his fish and claim the state record. I'm not sure what you're questioning here?

That fish was likely old brood hatchery stock that was released into Monarch Lake. I've caught unusually large trout on small lakes and found that to be the case after checking stocking records.
