Don’t be afraid to try worms in the fall. Have caught a ton of fish using a 1/2 crawler on a jig, or plain hook, and crawler harnesses….

The bait shop in two harbors still had them, although they were out of minnows. I believe the Seagrens hometown had them as well.

Anyone know of any leeches to be had in the cities up to Ely? I’ve struck out at several places

Leeches are generally available from May to September. They have a natural live cycle and span... so fishing with leeches later than that is less effective. And if you find live leeches available, they won't last very long. Go with crawlers.

Minnows! Labor day the fish were eating up the minnows non stop. Can be a hassle but well worth it.

Yah this time of year it is tough to locate leeches. It all revolves around the bait supplier’s stop trapping them. I would suggest you switch to night crawlers or minnows. For September trips in the past I’ve had to buy leeches in August and keep in my 2nd refrigerator downstairs.
