I proceeded to pull in a couple of small northerns and my brother caught a couple of really nice smallmouth bass and a nice walleye. I switched to a white jig and promptly caught a 4 lb walleye and a 4.5lb lake trout on two casts. After ten minutes of missed bites, we moved up into the current . After a few lost bass, I finally got one into the boat, thus completing the Grand Slam in 45 min in one spot. I also got the Slam the day before in just under an hour. These are the only two lake trout I have ever caught. Age 59. The first day we were after smallies with top water and shallow crankbaits. I happened to catch a walleye on a point in only about 4 feet of water. I then dropped a jig down in search of more walleyes and caught my first lake trout. Pay it forward... In our younger healthier years when the timing worked out at the portage, we often portaged packs of others traveling in the opposite direction. |
