Although not a Cleo, my go-to and most productive lure last spring was the blue/ white jointed floating Rap J-13. Based on my success, compared to my paddle partner’s, the blue unit was the deciding factor. Now I need to gat a Cleo or two. Nice trio of trout!

Both! Cleos are super versatile. I like to troll deep with them (25-40') over deep water (60-100+) to catch larger lake trout following schools of cisco/smelt or shallower along shorelines earlier in the year. They can also be effective vertical jigging in the winter or out of a canoe in the summer. If it's calm vertical, if its windy drift jigging to cover vast areas of water.

I’ve caught lakers on 1/4, 2/5, 2/3, and 3/4 size cleos so I don’t know that size matters all that much. Most tackle shops only have one or two sizes so I take what I can get. Blue/silver and red/silver have been my best.
This past June on the Canadian side of Sag I had a nice pike follow a red/white 2/3 all the way back to the boat, got him with the ol figure 8! When he took it I only had a few feet of line out and we got to watch the whole thing clear as day. One of the cooler strikes I’ve witnessed.

What size and color are your preferences for fishing for lake trout?
