Unless your going in May, stick to the north basin if you want to catch lakers. I've fished it during mid June and have had some success. They were quit deep, though. Also, I landed a few large small mouths while trolling with a tail dancer. Go deeper if you want lakers.

There are lakers in Gun.

The portage to Trygg starts off with an uphill scramble from Takumich that doesn't look like it should be the start of a portage. Don't plan on camping there, as the lone site is one of the worst I've run across in the bwca.

We’ll be there the Tuesday after Memorial Day, so late May

You can get a lake map showing bottom contours from searching on Minnesoata DNR lakefinder. St. Louis county. I just looked at it, 130 feet deep in the deepest hole, wow. The survey says it is mostly a lake trout lake with smallmouth bass present. No walleyes or northern pike.

Our plan is to go out #14 LIS up to Slim for a day and a half and then head to Gun for a few days. Anyone have any fishing maps of this lake? We're going to be basecamping there for a few days and taking at least one trip over to Trygg. I've heard Smallies and Lakers are in Gun, but I'm looking for some real life intel.

Thanks in Advance.
