South Temperance is a great lake with good fishing. There is quite a bit of underwater structure where you can find some walleye. Just look at a lake depth map and troll around anywhere that looks interesting. I never had any luck on the east arm of the lake or on the south end, but other than that, I've caught fish all over.

Rapalas work well. I've had some success with twister tails too. That time of the year, it isn't hard to catch walleye. Dusk and dawn were the most productive though.

Hey all,
Just a quick ask. I am looking at taking my 12 year old son on his 5th trip into BWCA and we are bringing two of his friends and their dads. All first timers. I am looking at going into Brule, then to South Temperance. I would like the boys to catch as many fish as possible. They are all avid fishermen. So yes, I get it that some people do not like giving up their "hotspots", however if anyone knows of any on South Temperance and are willing to share, we would be more than appreciative.

Thanks.

I am not a great fisherperson, but even I can do well in late May. You'll get into them, have no fear!

You're going to be on South Temperance for three weeks? I hope you get the best campsite. It's a nice little lake... and the 10 rod portage from Brule is certainly easy enough, although rocky.

My buddy and I camped on South Temp in later August a couple years ago and we had a fish locator with us. We saw fish stacked like you can't imagine and threw everything but our tackle boxes at them and considered ourselves fortunate to have caught two fish. Live bait, crankbaits, jigs, you name it... tightlipped fish, to say the least.

You'll be going in May so the fish will hopefully have different attitudes! The fish are in there. Just have to find them. Slip bobbers and leeches (or maybe nightcrawlers) should tantalize them enough to bite.

How do you manage getting three 12-year olds out of school for that long of a time? Home school?

Ahhh... got it. Thought it might be a long time to hang out on one lake.

Please edit your original post. Thanks.
