Snipe is a beautiful lake with some cool features but it is said to have no game fish. Ham Lake has northern and smallmouth. Tuscarora is a long portage from Missing Link but also has northern and should be manageable as a day trip if your load is light.

I am heading up into the BWCA in September for a 4-night stay and really enjoy fishing for Smallmouth and Northerns. Can someone tell me what fish species are found in Missing Link and Snipe?

I have been told Missing Link only has Trout?? If so, will they go for leeches or nightcrawlers at all or should I only use artificial for them? Not a very avid Trout fishermen so I don't honestly know how to catch them.

Does Snipe have Smallmouth or Northerns?

Should I head over to Cross Bay from Snipe to get the fishing species I am looking for?

Agree with this assessment.

Missing Link Lake is stocked with brook trout. My Daughter actually caught her 1st ever brook trout there. Mavis Lake (just next-door) is also stocked with brook trout but, the portage in has a tricky section. Spinners, spoons, small Rapala all work as well.

Here is my trip report from that adventure. Homage to the Spartans and other canoeing friends
