It appears the HJ deep diver will achieve greater depths than that of a Shad Rap.

when water temps warm up (july-august) a fast troll can trigger fish into biting compare to a slow roll/troll , yes for walleyes. my favs is my bomber collection.

I use a variety based on lake depth and speed.
If I am just slow paddling around letting the person in front cast whopper ploppers for smallmouth, i'll throw out a green reef runner and troll with it. That has saved many trips when looking for walleyes...that s a great spot for a leech right there. I position the canoe a typical cast length from shore then throw a reef runner about a half-cast behind the boat. Reef runners need easy, one-person paddling or they don't track right or pull too deep.
If I am traveling but not in a big hurry, I'll throw out either a shallow or deep shad rap depending on lake depth.
If another person is fishing from the canoe, only troll things that float. If I am alone, and moving a little faster, i will do x-raps. But they suspend, not float. Trolling things that sink or suspend is a great way to get hung up on the front and back of boat.
A jointed classic rapala is always a safe choice for just general trolling.
Shad raps and reef runners are my big producers though.

I like slow trolling during the summer and I don't necessarily like that the deep running cranks tend to be bigger in size than I prefer for just generally catching fish.
So I like the Berkley Flicker Shad as my go to and I like the 10-15ft runners.
I actually attached a 3 way swivel a couple feet up from the crank bait so if I want to go down to 20-25 ft I can attach a 1-1.5 oz. clip weight.
The clip weight ensures that no matter the size I can always keep that lure very close to the bottom.

I like to troll spoons between portages. I’ll run 1.5oz keel weight then 6’ fluorocarbon and then the spoon. I’ve caught countless Lake Trout using this method.

I've been a fan of the Scatter Raps lately. They don't go too deep so they are good for just tossing on when traveling and I like the swim action. I caught a 21" walleye on one these the trip before last and a good size lake trout last trip.

I didn't read the OP closely enough. I see he said HJ deep diver. I was thinking of the regular husky jerk (also a great trolling lure, but doesn't run as deep). I like the HJ deep diver but haven't used them as much lately for no particular reason.
