What are you fishing for?

Me personally? Walleye, lake trout, and smallmouth.

I guess the post was more to stimulate some discussion rather than elicit specific advice, but I'm sure I'll learn some things regardless.

Seems we're tied at a score of 3-3 so far.

Walleye - jig and rubber body.
Lake trout - trolling spoon.
Smallmouth - dang invasive species

Original floating is in my box, but rarely used.

There is no wrong answer to the question, only wrong conditions. Use either lure in the right conditions and you catch fish. Use either lure in the wrong conditions and you go hungry. That's why I have a tackle box with many lures so I can choose the wrong one every time.

Bob, I think OP guy was thinking along the lines of a debate, in which folks discuss the relative merits of each of two things.
As for me, I've been thinking more about it, which gives you a glimpse into my fishing-addled brain. The original behind a three-way swivel and a 2-or-3 oz sinker in rivers...ooooohhh yeah. Husky Jerks don't work as well in that application. HJ's outperform originals behind downriggers on Lake of the Woods, though.

I generally have more success on less-clear water, so HJ for me. Final answer.

i've had a lot of success with the F-18 blk/gold. a larger profile lure without the added weight, can be fished/cast with as little as #8 test. Lakers-Pike-Smallies love the blk&gold !

That's a tough one. The original has a few more uses, but I think I've gotta go with a big old gold-colored Husky Jerk. Once in a while they don't want the rattle, though....I dunno.
Edit: In stained water or current, HJ all the way.
In clear water, original.
LMB-original as a twitch bait
SMB- HJ stop and go
Pike are fine with either
walleye-HJ by a nose. You can stop it right in front of them.
Rainbow trout-HJ is very good

^^^ What Finnboy said. ^^^ I've had more luck than I deserve casting and/or trolling a perch Original Floating Rapala. Definitely one of my go-to lures.

The Husky Jerk 10 is literally my favorite all around lure in canoe country. Effective on all species (except when lakers are deep). Can be casted or trolled. They are especially deadly in May, June, and early July, but still catch fish later in the year. My favorite color is the blue/orange, but my son favors the fire tiger.

Finnboy: "Original. Because it works."

This is the correct answer Finnboy.

Got to go with the HJ. The eyes love that neutrally buoyant pause that you only get with the HJ. Actually like the casting ability of the X-rap better.
