General ask… for those of you who have fished US point, did you find the eastern shoreline or western shoreline significantly better for smallmouth/walleye? Or are they relatively similar?
I have fished big BW water before and know about Basswood River. Boundary Waters tactics are locked in and will not have trouble “catching“ fish. Just curious on the east and west shoreline of that long middle peninsula.
Looking at mid to late June.

The East side has been great for us over the years. lots of great smallmouth, shoreline, and pretty good walleye fishing near the island campsite south towards Washington Island

I am not asking for specific bays, points or humps. Just overall feel from those who have fished both sides. Not even sure I will make that trip this year. We will go to LLC as a group and I will go somewhere as a solo. Maybe Moose to Sag or Brule Loop. Chasing Bronzebacks mostly.

There are some BIG flats on the eastern side that hold schools of smallmouth but not many walleye. I have seen walleye caught off of the seagull rocks though.
The western side holds smallmouth near shore and there are some reefs near the border out in the lake that draw walleye in.
Pike, as usual, are damn near everywhere there are other fish.
All of Basswood is a great fishery and you can't go wrong on either side. Good luck and hope you catch some good ones.
If smallmouth are your target and you are not crossing the border, go to the eastern side.

Thank you, Bear Raid.
How’s the traffic up and down the East side?
