I’m guessing crayfish are in the shallows, and the smallmouth probably have some amount of cannibalism - eating smaller smallmouth, and eating lake trout fry as well. Are there sizable populations of perch, ciscoes, shiners, or whitefish in these lakes? |

GunflintTrailAngler: "Ciscoes and bugs." X2! The lakes with the biggest walleye and trout have good Cisco forage in my experience. There are some with perch as well I believe? (Thinking Gunflint). Check out MN DNR Lakefinder. You can see which species are present in each lake. |
