I use the Palomar knot most of the time for tying to lures, as I find it stronger and easier to tie than other common fishing knots. FG knot for braid to flouro because it has very slim profile to slide through eyelets.
All that said, most knots work very well. Use the knots that appeal to you and you're comfortable with.

The best knot you can use is the knot you're most comfortable tying. Yes, some knots are stronger than others, some hooks work best with a specific knot. Take the time to learn those knots and tie them when you're comfortable. Don't quit your current knot that works before a trip where you'd really hate to lose a fish (like in the BWCA).
Knots that I'm comfortable with that have worked for me:
Uni-knot (I use for braid to plain hook) Snell Knot (any line to octopus/circle hooks with a bent eye) Modified clinch: fluoro/mono to plain hook FG knot: braid to fluoro/mono leader
If I feel lazy I just tie a uni on everything.

Knots matter. Most are acceptable if tied properly. I like palomar or Trilene to attach lures or hooks and a double uni knot to join lines. These are all extremely strong and easy to tie.

I've been using basically the same knot to tie my line to swivels and lures for years. I don't fish a lot, but am considering a few others like the uni and the double uni.
Does the knot really matter or is it basically what one is comfortable with?

Yes the particular knot you use does matter. Watch a few fishing knot videos where the guy ties a knot then breaks the knot and measures the break strength. I use the Uni knot and like it a lot, very easy to tie.

Uni and double uni for line to line. Works great for a 100% knot. Easy too!

I started using a Double Davy knot a few years ago and won’t go back. It’s so simple. Just do what you do with every knot-make sure it’s tight! Start with an over hand loop and it’s just over under and over again. With age, some of the other knots are too challenging for old fingers.

I must say the "Double Davy Knot" is intriguing due to its simplicity.
Do you use it with braided line or with all types of fishing line? Has anyone tested its strength?

I use the following...
- Palomar knot for terminal tackle, lures, etc.
- Double Uni knot for tying two lines together.

Some knots do not do as well with small diameter fused or microbraids. Use a Palomar knot for these lines.

Same. Only exception is that I prefer to tie a snell when tying to plain hook like an octopus for slip bobber rigs.
It’s all about repetition and comfort level. When I started tying the double uni I taped a diagram to my Plano box and it would take me several minutes. Now I can tie that thing with my eyes closed and the boat rocking… slight exaggeration but you get the point.
