Are you going to north or south arm? south arm campsite just south of thunderhead is pretty good walleyes come in at night. or through the narrows on the island that has 3 sites either of the western sites are decent the northwest one is the best to fish from.

This photo may help you a little it's not the best quality

The lakers were in 40 feet plus of water in early june in knife so I'd look deeper, deep diving tail dancers, dipsy divers and a depth finder troll troll troll try off the thunder head and in south arm narrows they were a little shallower I don't know why here's a link to my early june knife lake photos

Thanks for your replies. Hey mcsweem, those are some pretty awesome pictures of your trip. Do you have any campsite suggestions on the south arm? It looks like you guys had a great trip!

We are heading to the same area about the same time. We leave friday from Indiana and will be leaving on Sag Sat morning. we will be on south arm of knife sometime around monday/tuesday next week. we will be focusing more for bass and northern, keeps the kids more interested. i would love to catch a laker, never have. heck, a couple decent walleye would be nice as well.
good luck.

If you have the time, try a day trip into Sema. Lakers AND solitude.

In early June, last year, we found them in shallower water, using worm harnesses. I'm sure they are deeper by now, but the worm harness with a bottom bouncer worked.

Thank you all for your advice. We did pretty good with the lakers on Knife lake last week, We tried all over the lake and finally started nailing them about 200 feet from our campsite in 60 feet of water. The fis were suspended in 35-40 feet of water. We had the best luck with the 30 FT. Taildancer in black and silver. Boy, are those lakers tasty! Thanks again to all who helped me out!

Heading to Knife lake for the first time next week. I was wondering if anybody could give me some pointers on where to fish for elusive lakers? Any info would be greatly appreciated, as I have never caught a laker.

I would start about 30-40 feet deep. We just got back from a quetico trip and both of the lakers we caught were caught at around 40 feet. We were marking fish (depth finder) in 40 feet of water most of the time. Big jigs or spoons.

Great maps mcsweem. Thank you for sharing. My boys and I are headed up to the south arm the first week of August from Iowa. I was looking at the campsite on the small peninsula running east that is just south of the large island in which you have two campsites circled. You have a note about a lot of bears being here. Have you run into bears in any other areas on Knife? I am looking for a base camp with close access to good fishing. Youngest son and I will fish mornings and evenings and we will do sight seeing trips in the middle of the day. Plans to hit Eddy Falls and the enchanted forest between SAK and Hanson. We would like to target walleyes and pike. Would love to catch some lakers but would be tough in August. We know we can always fall back on catching some Smallmouth.

Thanks, Damon
