We were on lac la croix two years ago. As far as I can remember the canoe only zone is most all of snow bay, thats where we stayed. We had good luck with smallies and walleye there. Only placed we fished.

If you are going to the trouble of getting there with a motor boat, I would definitely spend the extra money to fish on the Canadian side. It's a big lake, and by staying south of snow bay, you'll hardly see any of it.

I'm a little confused by your question "Also does anyone know where the non motorized portion of the lake begins does it include Snow Bay or just part of it?" Non motorized (canoes) are allowed anywhere on La Croix as long as you have the proper documents(RABC). Motor boats are allowed in all portion of Lac La Croix within Canada and only on the US portion south of Snow Bay w/ motor boat permit. Take a look at this map...this may help. Voyageur Map #1

Our group will be going to the BWCA motorized part of Lac La Croix the second week of June. Does anyone have any tips for fishing this part of the lake or comments on camp sites? We have a group 0f 7 and 3 boats so we need a big site. Would we be better of getting permits to fish the Canadian side? Also does anyone know where the non motorized portion of the lake begins does it include Snow Bay or just part of it? Thanks!!
