quote kellyrth: "Thanks Dave, I sent the Lake Superior Trading Post an email asking them for more information. Have you ever fished Saganaga for lake trout or anything else? " Here's another option...I don't know what this one is like but they usually provide more info then the map I have. More info as in, places to start fishing, resorts/outfitters, stocking history, DNR data etc... http://www.sportsmansconnection.com/minnesota/fishingbooks/arrowhead/ I've never fished Sag seriously...waiting for the tow and trolling for Lake Trout headed to Cache Bay. Did good without trying hard. Could spend a lifetime on this lake and never get bored. Dave |

Kiporby: "Here ya go. I've been trying to get my hands on a bathymetry map of Cache Bay. I found this older thread and that you posted a picture of it but the link no longer works. Is there any chance you still have this picture or map? I'd be forever grateful!!! |

At the time he had like 1800 of the paper maps in inventory. Re-attaching the image here, I think this is the one from Kiporby. This is the most complete Sag depth map available but as pointed out above does not include Cache Bay. That doesn’t surprise me. It’s more odd to me that the contours go west of the motor boundary at American Point at all. It makes sense that they weren’t able to map the Quetico portions. It’s interesting that someone way back in 2013 said voyager was sounding Saganaga as those maps still only contain countries for Red Rock bay |

quote tnybrmr: "Seen this forum and am also looking for that map but doesn't show on lakemaps.com do u know anywhere else I could purchase it?" Bucks Hardware in Grand Marais had the large paper version that Kiporby posted, they also had the smaller plastic version (3 cards)but the paper one has more detail, pretty cheap, they might be willing to send you one otherwise pick it up when you are on your way there. |

quote blutofish1: "I have a map. I can e-mail it or you can purchase a software disc called navionics hot maps explorer from cabelas for 19.99. It has some really good contour lines for a lot of BWCA lakes. I sent one to an outfitter and he said it was better than any map that he has. My e-mail is in my profile if you want a copy. Can I get a copy??? We've been trying to get a lake map forever but have always come up short other than Red Rocks. Know any good guides?? Huntin_Redneck@msn.com Thanks, Dave |

quote kellyrth: "I will be going to Saganaga lake EP55 on June 17th. I wanted to try fishing for lake trout on Sag but haven't been able to find any maps that show water depth. I assume the trout will be near the deep water drop offs but without a map I don't even know where to start. The DNR lake finder page doesn't even have a map for Sag. I've bought the Fisher map and the Voyageur map (neither have depths) haven't seen the McKenzie map yet so I don't know if it's the same. We fished Sag on the Minnesota side, last year during the first week in June, with a guide, but for walleye. We had very little success. The guide made a short stop in the corridor. I had a chance to talk with an old timer that has a cabin on Sag. He advised that the Lake is fed my six lake chains and there is a lot of feed provided for the fish. He had just gotten back from the Canadian side and had his limit in walleyes. Two years ago, we fished with a guide in Sag, in mid July and had a lot of success with smallmouth, walleye and small lake trout. I love the environment, but it is a tough lake to fish, unless you know the terrain and have a lot of experience. |

quote TuscaroraBorealis: "I believe I read somewhere that Saganaga is one of the only lakes in Minnesota where they have not done the testing to determine depths (contour lines). The exception being Red Rock bay." I have the Lakemaps seven page plastic set that shows lake depths. |

quote Doughboy12: "I see Longnose Gar...has anyone caught one from there?" I'm 99.9% positive that's error. There are Longnose Sucker in Sag (and many other BW lakes -especially bigger/deeper water) so somebody probably screwed that one up. Longnose Gar range in MN |

It is the same company, but sounds like it's downsized to one person in his basement. Not sure why he's so hard to find, as I think there's a demand for them, but he was extremely nice and very helpful. Lakemaps 1-800-999-8204 Rick Elsen P.O. Box 2026 Faribault, MN 55021 |

CaliFisherman: "Hello, Like I posted 11 years ago above there is a 7 page plastic map set of Lake Saganaga that I own and looking at right now. It was made in 1984 by a company named LakeMaps. It shows the USA side of the lake and the Canadian side of the lake depths in 5–10’ depths. But unfortunately the only part that is not charted with the depths is Cache Bay area. I just turned on my new Garmin fish finder with a new Canada map chip from Garmin and that map chip shows the depths on the Canadian side in 2’ depths increments. But once again there is no information of the Cache Bay Area. Very strange why this area has not been graphed, sorry. |
