I did a 20 day trip on the Grass River back in 1980. Wasn't primarily a fishing trip but we did Catch fish whenever we were hungry. I would tell my buddy to get a fire going and I would make a few casts and have all we could eat.

We put in at First Cranberry and paddled to Wekusko where we were stranded by wind for 2 days and finally gave up and retraced our steps. In 20 days we saw one other canoe. Had a caribou almost come into our camp on Reed Lake.

It was a great memory and I would love to go back. If I ever do go back I think I would just go up to Elbow Lake and base camp there. I think we paddled from First Cranberry to Elbow in one long day but I might not be remembering right.

There are lodges up there and you can do that in a boat and motor but we didn't see any.

I never have but I have watched some videos on the area. Aaron Wiebe of uncut angling and clayton schick are both great Canadian fisherman and have filmed several videos on the Grass River region.

Anyone here ever been to and fished the Grass River in Manitoba? I was talking with Dennis Davidson last night (owner of Northwest Canoe) and he said the best fishing he's ever experienced was on the Grass River in Manitoba. I hadn't heard of it so I googled a little today and discovered there is a Grass River Provincial Park in western Manitoba. If anyone else has been there I'd like to hear what you have to say.
