If you're willing to take a day trip, Ensign Lake holds a lot of bass. I worked for one of the outfitters for 3 years out of college and ran hundreds of tows up and down Moose, Newfound, and Sucker. Never saw many people fishing, mostly canoes on the east side and towboats on the west side. Not to say there's not fish in those lakes. Willy at Custom Cabins grew up on the lake and should know some hot spots.

I've had luck on the east end of Moose casting Pop-R's tight to laydowns and brush...but that's almost a given.

Moose is full of fish. It has alot of boat traffic also. I've stayed on Moose many times and caught alot of fish.I've caught some nice pike and bass.Basswood is the ticket if you want numbers and size. I haven't fished moose in June. I always basecamped on basswood that time of year. Hopefully the lodge personel can help you out with the fishin. Have a good trip and welcome to the site.

There are some nice largemouths in Moose as well. You'll catch fish.

No. You would need to do a couple short, easy portages with a canoe to get to Ensign. No motors on Ensign, it's in the park. Just would need a day use permit.

Hello, new member and after going every year I have not been to the boundary Waters in years since my Father passed as I thought it would not be the same without him. Use to go way up in there with paddles but not anymore. My brothers and I are going to give a try again and relive the memories and we will be staying at custom cabin rentals on Moose for the week starting 10 Jun. We will be going into basswood but mainly fishing the moose lake area. I am a diehard bass fisherman and fish many tourneys back here in Neb. Looking for advise on the smallmouth fishing on Moose. I am thinking we will hit the spawn and topwaters should be working. I use to kill bass on zara spooks and slider worms but that was not on Moose.Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Yup, talk to Willy. We have seen smallies swimming right next to thier docks. Nothing big but it might be a place to start if ya hit them before the boats start taking off in the morning.

Been on Moose a few times, fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike, only came across a few rock bass. But I did not fish for Bass.

can you get to Ensign Lake with a V hull 25 horse? I can't tell from google earth if there is a portage or not. Thanks
