Just got back from there. I caught a fish in Polly!!!

Also fished in Koma and Malberg. I didn't catch anything but the temps were almost 90 degrees.

A lot of open sites on Malberg last week.

It took us four hours to get to Polly (double portaging) and one hour, 45 minutes from Polly to Malberg (single portaging).

Welcome back! What kind of fish, on what, and what part of Polly?
Where'd you stay on Malberg?

yeah, go to Malberg and throw a few into the rapids on the Malberg side of the Koma- Malberg portage... also good walleye right out in the bay there, waiting for baitfish to come through the rapids

Great fishing on this entry. A search on the site will give lots of ideas about Malberg, Koma and Polly. Our group of 4 made it to the north side of Koma in 5 hrs with single portaging and a lunch break. The water was very low in late July and that made the portages longer and the rivers slower as we were usually scraping or doing a beaver dam carryover. We would've been on Malberg in under 6hrs if we wanted to, but why push. We weren't base camping.

Hi
I'm planing a trip in early August from entry point 37 and would like ideas on routes for good fishing. We are planning on staying 6 day and would like to base camp some. We are willing to do hard portages. Thanks for any help.

Cedarboy,
8 hours seems a little long. I'll admit it has been a long time since I was there last (early 80's) so I used the average 3 mph paddling speed and 640 rods per hour portage speed that has been shared here before and I came up with just over 5 hours if you double portage it.

Of course I am assuming I measured the distance right on the map, the portage distance on the maps are accurate, and the rivers are canoeable.

I'm going there next week so I'll let you know how long it does take.

Polly seems to be a popular lake for fishing, with a lot of potential good spots. (The area near the Koma portage looks great) And it's really a beautiful lake, if you can find an open site. That would make for a pretty decent first day. Seems to me, going to Malberg the first day might get you there a little late for a site.

Yah it really isnt that long I just like to error on the long side when giving these type of estimates, as we dont know when they will leave etc and how they travel. We made it in spring 06 in about 5 1/2 hrs with a lunch stop on the north end of Polly. really good fishing in the area.

CB Thanks for confirming my estimate. I'll post how long it takes me sometime after the 25th.
