Question for you guys using flouro leaders. I have not previously. Do you tie the flouro to the swivels and snaps or use sleeves/crimps? Also, do you use flouro leader material or just flourocarbon line (apparently there is a difference??). Thanks.

I use fluoro leader on one spinning rig with Powerpro braid. Usually tie 5' using a blood knot (line to line). That gives me 3-5 reties to jigs, lures before I have to tie another leader. I use Seaguar fluoro, not specified leader material, and have never had a problem.

Tight lines,

I join flouro leaders to mainline with back to back uni knots as well. Use your fav knot to join to snaps etc although I tend to tie direct to the lure most often with Lefty's non slip loop knot.

There is definitely a difference between flouro mainline and leader material. However, if you are using the flouro just for the low refraction/invisibility, then they are about the same. If using it in heavier weights so you don't get cut off from toothy critters, use the leader material. It is much stiffer and abrasion resistant. If you pick up a piece of Seagaur Premiere Leader material and Seagaur InvisX mainline for example , you will really see the difference. They have been making the mainline softer and more supple over the years for easier casting. It is definitely not the same stuff re using as a bite leader.

That's pretty simple, might have to try that one.

I do the same thing as Jimmy Lindner when connecting flouro to my fly line leader, except I use perfection loops instead (stronger).

I should have been a little more specific. We are talking two different things. I was referring to flouro leaders vs steal leaders for pike. Was going to tie some up, wasn't sure if I should use knots or sleeves and crimps or what material. Sounds like I should get leader material.

Good info though, I like the knot with fireline. Although I usually use mono for my leaders with that.... Thanks!

For heavier line like 40#+ I use a nail knot or crimp. Make sure you use a double crimp sleeve and a good quality crimper with a wide bite, otherwise you will damage the flouro. For lighter line a Palomar or Trilene knot works good for me.

I use back-to-back 4 wrap Uni knots. I use regular flouro line as leader and don't see a difference. If I'm fishing stained water for Northerns I use a swivel connection and 12" of 30#-40#.

Good point. Come to think of it the heavier leader I use for Pike is leader specific flouro. I use leftover spools of 8,10 or 12# for 'eyes, lakers and bronzebacks.
