Spinnerbaits for sure. Throw big ones like 1 oz. Pike will twist one so bad, you can get only a few fish before it is ruined, so try Terminator brand, they spring back better. Try big thumper blades(Colorado) in emergent weeds in very low light conditions...you will catch everything, maybe yuor biggest Walleye!

hello all-
5 of us will be in the alpine lake area june 12-16th, virgin run for all. i'm definitely bringing crankbaits and everything else but wonder if i should include any spinnerbaits, specifically single blade.

White with single colorado or indiana blades have always done well for me. Bring a little bigger one with a trailer and stinger hook for pike. That single hook is nice when you get hooked up with juvie pike!

You would be crazy not to take a 3/8 oz. chartreuse double willow blade spinner bait. Actually you would be nuts not to have at least 2 with you. Boo Yah makes the best.

Depends on how much tackle/portaging/etc you're planning on. I usually bring 5 or 6. Couple white, couple chartreuse...few different types of blades.
Personally, I like the type with the twist at the line tie. It makes it easier to use a steel leader/snap.

Booyah in gold has been reliable for smallies and even some walleyes over the years. We catch more on spinnerbaits than most trippers catch total.

I take about 6 spinner baits with willow and Colorado blades. I also take about 20 Mepps spinner baits from 2-5 size. Spinnerbaits are the way to go for Bass.

Good call.
I have fished some bardless hooks but only with really long rods while fishing salmon in rivers. I think it would take a while to learn how to land a smallmouth starting 40 feet from the boat with a 6 or 7 foot fast action rod. Maybe a medium action would be better?

i always bring a wht mepps musky killer and a colorado/willow tandem spinner bait wht.

I recently have met with success using the Terminator Spinner baits. I caught well with the T1 original Titanium in both black and baby bass until they were, sadly, lost. The first one was recommended by my bait shop guy and I originally thought he was just trying to make some money (they are pricey), but those things work.

I've had success wit Mepps Aglia spinners in gold. #2 or #3's work well. Troll or crank slowly, Walleyes, bass and pike like 'em.

Clearwater Lakes black with gold blades, stained lakes chartreuse with silver blades have always worked for me. Mepps spinners work great also .

Spinnerbaits are very versatile and tough. They are also pretty snag free. I think they are worth the carry.
I don't care for in-line spinners such as Mepps because they often get three hooks in the fish and wind up killing the fish.

I know lots of fishers use spinnerbaits for bass, but I don't. If I'm on a lake sans walleye and it's time to eat, I just toss a spinnerbait into cabbage for lunch. Don't toss two as you'll catch two pike, unless you're a big eater and want two.

Bring the titanium and extra skirts. The pike can destroy them, but very reliable.

Safety-pin type - Single colorado blade in chartreuse or white with a larger blade that really thumps has done nicely. Black spinner bait with tandem blades have done well for me too. I think they are gold blades or may be a chrome/copper split.
Mepps spinners are always in the tackle box when I go. Those things are like magic sometimes. I start with a #4 gold blade/brown squirrel tail. Yellow and white are productive colors too.
Fish them sloooooow to start out and gradually increase retrieve speed based on fish activity.

Yup. You can throw a spinnerbait around deadfalls with confidence.

Crazy as it may sound one of my BEST days ever of walleye fishing was on Loon lake casting a spinnerbait for bass! Shattered my preconceived notions that spinnerbaits only catch bass and pike.
