Trilene XT, 8lb for trolling or jigging, 6lb for a slip bobber rig. I like the XT because it handles abrasion much better than the XL although it does have a bit more memory.

I use fireline 6lb on my walleye pole and 8lb on my bass/pike pole although if I was mainly fishing for pike I would go higher. I love the way they cast and rarely if ever get tangles and even then they are small and fixable. Plus the durability is outstanding.
Has anyone tried the new fireline crystal?

trilene xl. im a stick in the mud. 8 lb for walleyes and smallies. 14 lb for northerns. :)

10 lb. Fireline for smallies & northerns, 8lb. mono for the walleye rod.
I tried PowerPro once & I'll never touch it again. Must have picked up a bad batch. Broke four times - while casting! Lost three lures that way & the line ended up in the garbage after two outings.

It depends. For a Pike setup, power pro 20-30lb no question, my favorite line...
for a walleye/bass setup, either use 8-10 lb mono (trilene XT).

chadwick, valid question, but the line was actually breaking, not the knot. It would snap several feet from the lure. The second time it happened I checked all my eyelets for rough edges, nothing. I kept thinking I was doing something stupid, but once I went back to Fireline the madness stopped.
I was mad at the time, but like I said, I've heard enough positives about PowerPro over the years that I suspect I just got a batch made at 4:48 on a Friday. After the employees had a few...

If you are going to go with anything other than a mono, go with powerpro, it is much better that the fused fireline.
I use 30 lb power pro on my bait caster(dont go any lower or you will get binding)
8 lb mono on my medium light rods for mepps, small rapala type lures, jigs, etc. walleye smallies
10 lb mono on my medium for trolling, shadraps, or any lure when I am risking snags or am fishing pike.
I have my cabelas XML TI rigged with 6lb fire line crystal, and it is great for lindyrigging, but not the greatest for casting. NExt time i get a line change power pro is going on it.
fireline is known for cutting guides, and getting nasty tangles that will require a line clipper.

fireline for northern, and for bass and walleye when im using crankbaits (lets them go deeper due to thinner line). but otherwise i use mono for bass and walleye with other lures and live bait rigs.

Power Pro here too. I am going on my 3rd season with the same line on 5 rigs. I use the 10lb (2 lb diameter). With the exception of the normal fraying in the first 3-5 feet from the lure, I have never had a problem. Never had the famous "loop" associated with mono. I originally bought it because I was spending a lot of time fixing the rat's nest on my kid's and wife's reels. It's been good to me.

I use 8lb Fireline/smoke on both my rods. I prefer it to the Spiderwire because it frays less. I do tip one of the rods with a 4lb to 8lb flourocarbon leader as this does seem to make a difference at times ecspecially fishing localy around here.
The Fireline can also be used as winding for attaching a new rod guide or emergency thread to sew something.
I also started using PowerPro on a couple of my rods and that seems to be real good stuff too.

8lb. Fireline or PowerPro. I run the 20-30lb PowerPro on my bass rods and I haven't found a better braid yet. I drop down to the 8lb for my bwca trips though. I have one rod rigged with PP and one with Fireline. The Fireline does fray a bit more but it seems to hold it's strength.
If you rig up some mono check out the Gamma brand. I have the 8 & 10lb. mono on my trolling rods and that stuff is very very stong compared to similar mono lines. Been very impressed with it so far!

Paddle away- what kind of know were you using. the ONLY knot that works with powerpro is the palomar or the uni. the palomar is the best though. knots line the trilene, or clinch knot WILL slip.

I use 2 rods on my trip and they are both micro lite 6' rods from BPS and use 6 lb trilene xl mono. Really fun for bass and walleye, thats all I fish for. Its really fun on the big ones!!!!!!!

i love 8Lb fireline, it has good color and you can always feel what it at the end of your line. You know instantly if it is a fish or a snag. It has 3lb diameter. The only setback it that you can't cut it with your teeth.
