hey mooseplums, how much DO you weigh?
Im planning a trip to this area in either early june, or mid-late may

Caught one nice one there last year in 10-15 ft. of water, and 4-5 others. !st week of June. Went there for a halfway private basecamp . Wrong! High traffic area and took 2 days for a site to open. Gonna tryer again though just to finish exploring area. Maybe Sunday Bay and Bottle outlet? Lake Erie sure has it beat for fishing (IMO) but not for scenery and quiet camping ONCE you find a site and set up! oth

i agree with TGO, minnows are your best bet.start at the mouth of an incoming river. if the ice went out late, the larger "eyes" should be there, and if it was early, smaller ones will generally be present. bigger fish normally spawn first. try shorelines or high-spots close by.

TGO is right. I caught my wieght in walleyes below Curtain Falls in late May.

Yup,
Live bait (minnows) with plain hooks, or lead head jigs.
Early in the season, the walleye will be shallow, and any current is a good place to look on the lakes you mentioned.
Below Curtain Falls will be a good choice of location.

In your experiences are the walleyes on the big waters shallow early spring like smaller lakes? I've always had better luck with live bait early, you too?

I took a trip in that area last summer and was really shocked at how poor the walleye fishing was in Iron. We spent the entire time searching for the Eyes and finally found them at a river mouth. Even then it was sporatic and they were smaller fish. The SM and Pike fishing was great but I tell you what. I would choose a bunch of lakes over Iron for Walleyes.
