Considering Plastic Coffee Container-question....what would be the best material to pack the worms in to keep the coolest for longest? Thanks oh Experienced ones.

I have used everything from wife's Tupperware to something similar to the frabill tote that opens on both sides. I am actually conside ring a cigar box with either small bungees or taped perhaps. I like the low profile in this. It would pack well.

I use the same thing as Dean l, and use a strap to make sure it stays closed for the in bound journey. I also use real dirt with peat moss, not bedding. I will also add a small double bagged frozen zip lock of ice to the tote for the in bound journey, then put the box in the pack with sleeping bags and pads so it stays cool. Heat is your enemy.

When they were legal in Quetico we would use one of those heavy duty styrofoam coolers that omaha steaks come in. We would bring 500 crawlers packed in Buss Bedding as no natural materials were allowed to cross the border. freeze a half gallon plastic milk jug for the ride up from Ohio. Stash it back in the woods covered with pine needles, when at camp. Each person would have a smaller bait cup into which we would put 2 dozen crawlers to use out on the lake, while the majority of our crawlers were kept cool in the shade back at camp. By using this method we were able to have crawlers on the last day of our trips, even in the heat of August.

What kind of cheap/ free Crawler storage and transport do you guys use in the BWCA? I have used a variety of things but never really satisfied. Thanks

Not sure if it's cheap but I'm planing on taking a crawler box made by Flabill. Plenty of bedding inside the box. Double opening on each side. Looks like it will work good. Made out of styrofoam. What kind have you been using, why don't you like it?

I use two of these Frabill totes . I put 3 dozen in each one and haven't had a problem in early/mid June. While it's not fail safe black dirt keeps cooler longer than the worm bedding does. Peat dirt will keep even a little longer. Keep in mind heat will cook crawlers very quickly if your not careful.
