Hi friends,

I would like to know what options are there for "fake" taxidermy, just based on pictures at max. but which don't use real fish components. Some website links would be great.

I love carved artworks , such as the ones from Skull Bliss, but they use real animal components and don't work with fishes.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Brandon

Two questions... do you mean fiberglass replicas? (I assume you do.) I'm sure the folks who do fiberglass replicas prefer that term over fake taxidermy. lol

And another assumption... your name is Brandon (in your post), but your board name shows "Brandoon". Is that by design or did you have an extra twitch when you hit the "o" on your keyboard. We can fix it if you like.

Anyway graphite mounts are excellent.

Just take a few good pictures and get the measurements and your set. They last forever, can be repaired and the best part is that you can release the trophy fish.

Yes I meant fiberglass replicas (sorry I didn't know the term :X). It is going to be a gift for my wife (I don't understand much about fishing nor hunting myself).

You can leave it "brandoon", it doesnt botter me (yet my real name is Brandon).

Thanks.

Artistic anglers

They are a little more expensive and they take a long time to get your fish/animals back. but they do the best work. Their fish painter is one of the best in the world. I just got my lake trout back from them and it looks perfect. Well worth the money.

The mold he has that matches is right facing, slight tail down. If you want to order call Matt directly at 218-721-4900. I sent him a picture your bookie and he said "good god" haha"

I had a tiger muskie done a few years ago that turned out great. It was done in central Wisconsin and I would highly recommend the taxidermist/artist. It depends on your location and some others on here seem to have good advice as well. Either way, I was very pleased with the replica, plan on it taking some time to complete if you want quality work.

Bassproshop used to charge about 10$ an inch. They need length, girth, weight, and hopefully a pic. Mine looks perfect after 10 yrs.

Artistic Anglers is amazing. I had a 31" walleye done by them last year; it's phenomenal. I really debated on keeping the fish and bringing it to a taxidermist and a buddy told me about Artistic Anglers. It was more expensive but I am very happy with the work!

I think many of the graphite look better than the real thing. Also they will outlast you.
The DNR has a lot of graphite mounts for there display from the Duluth outfit and identification-education programs.

BP...Artistic Anglers will be doing my Brookie...supposed to get it back around December/January. They were about 8 months out when I gave them the fish measurements. I will post some pics when I get it back.

This will be my 4th fish I have brought to them...they are awesome at what they do!

I believe that proponents of "real" Taxidermy fish have perpetuated a myth, the idea that the biggest fish in a system no longer breed and are of no use to the system. I have seen more evidence that these fish do indeed breed. Taking one or two of the biggest fish out of a system WILL impact the fishery in my opinion as it could actually take centuries of natural selection to replace these superior genetics once removed.

10# Walleyes and 30# Pike breed, but go ahead and tell yourself otherwise if that is more convenient for you.

Sorry to rant.

Just commenting on the breeding part. The bigger fish are usually female. Take the walleye-you can go to any egg taking station in Minnesota and where they strip the walleye eggs. Tests have shown for decades if a big walleye be it 10-14 pounds is healthy. Its eggs are just as viable as the younger walleyes. The hatch rate will be the same. Only when a fish gets unhealthy looking will they become unfertile. Some of the stripping stations have verified walleyes close to 20 years old-that is a very old walleye. Lake tout will live twice that long.

I think returning the big fish, one of the main things it gives others a chance to catch a quality size fish, instead of cropping the fish down severely like you see in much of the state.

Wow that laker is huge!

The replicas on the artistic anglers website looked very familiar. I'm curious if they have work featured at the cabelas in woodbury.

I remember a few of the first freeze dry mounts, well after a time some started to stink. I guess that process isn't perfect all the time.

I think the graphite mounts actually end up with a better paint job than real fish do.
