Pinetree	03/15/2016 10:07PM   Caught a few just by accident. Always thought it would be neat when fish are not biting you could at least get bluegills. Also kids would have fun at a campsite. Any pictures at all from the BWCA? I bet not many? prove me wrong? No separation of panfish species,but interesting how the panfish combo wipes out the other species Harvest Sport Fish Harvested:Minnesota DNR site Walleye - 4.6 million pounds Northern Pike - 4.6 million pounds Panfish - 9.7 million pounds The most caught fish: 1st: Panfish 2nd: Walleye 3rd: Northern

Basspro69	03/16/2016 08:52AM   Daytripped into a lake for trout and found these bull gills also. Brought them back to the lodge to mount them (In Oil )

I think I caught a total of 1 bluegill up in the BWCA and it was on a river system. They may be the best tasting fish out there. I got to catch that bluegill fish, than I can work on that picture thing. I think maybe I need fishing lessons.
mr.barley	03/16/2016 10:27PM   Hard to beat a big bluegill. I ran across some on the Canadian side of Crooked a few years back and was ill-prepared to fish them. That isn't going to happen again. Panfish tackle is light.
gsfisher13	03/16/2016 10:39PM   I've caught bluegill on at least every other trip. One year we didn't catch enough walleye for dinner so I paddled around the corner from camp where I caught a bluegill earlier and in 15 minutes returned with enough bluegill for dinner. If I catch one I will usually move on because I'm usually trying to catch fish other than bluegill, I can catch those any time I want to on my local lakes and ponds, when I'm up there I want to catch other species. Here is a nice one from Gull Lake a number of years ago. Bad picture, we had it laid flat in his hand and it was far bigger than his hand. We didn't eat that one :)

yogi59weedr	03/16/2016 12:06PM   2 spots come to mind. 1st is on basswood.comingfrom the east, before you get into the big part of hoist bay there is a long narrow island. Just south of that island is a small island in a small bay. Directly south of that island they stack up to spawn along the shore.. the 2nd is on the north arm of knife.1st big bay south of the portage into amoeber. Go all the way back to the very last campsite on the point.just to the left they stack up. You can see and catch them from camp....
lundojam	03/16/2016 05:34PM   Malberg has decent gills. I always bring some little stuff in case I see some bluegills swimming or in a northern's belly.
