Wick	06/10/2018 06:05AM   I am rigging my ccs ridgeline bag. What size do you guys use on the ridgeline? I have a bunch of the ccs yellow rope, and a bunch of 7/64 amsteel blue. Will either of these work for ridgeline? I was going to use them, then just this morning was reading about prusik knots, which i want to use on the ends to tighten the ridgeline. I read the prusik does not hold good on smaller line. This morning i read that the prusik line should be no bigger then 50% of ridgeline dia. Do i need bigger ridgeline?
Savage Voyageur	06/10/2018 08:05AM   That 7/64” amsteel cord will work great for a ridgeline. I use it for my hammock suspension and tarp ridgeline. Look into the Nite Ize cord tighteners. Quick, easy and trouble free. CamJam cord tighteners

boonie	06/10/2018 07:00AM   I just use the CCS cordage for the ridgeline. I have no experience with the Amsteel, but it should be OK too if it is low stretch, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about line size for the prussics on the tarp as long as it's not bigger; might be a problem if you were using it climb out of a cavern, but people have used the CCS cordage for those on a tarp without problem, so you could probably just use some Amsteel for the prussics and be fine.
Othello	06/10/2018 06:58AM   I use 1.75mm Lawson Ironwire (or zing-it, lash-it, or similar) for both ridgelines and prusiks. They hold quite well, and no need for larger ridgeline. I have used 7/64 amsteel to make UCRs with integrated prusiks (amsteel prusik on amsteel line), and those held well also. The rule about smaller prusiks than your main line is valid, and I'd adhere to it for climbing, but for tarps on a ridgeline, same size line works fine, in my experience. I'd recommend spliced continuous loops for the prusiks if you're using the amsteel, as it doesn't hold knots as well. Be sure to use the single-strand portion of the CL for the prusik wrap so your prusik is not actually bigger line than your CRL. Good luck!
Wick	06/10/2018 07:42AM   Ahhh,,I understand now. The advice was read on a climbing site. I guess i wont die if my prusik isn’t perfect! I have line strung up all over the kitchen trying different rope everywhere, and it all seems to work. I will continue with my ridgeline using the ccs on the ridgeline, with amsteel blue on the (sling) prusik. I also made nice lightweight painter lines on the canoes with the amsteel. Thanks!
Wick	06/10/2018 07:57AM   I forgot to say,,,i put a prusik using the amsteel on the ccs ridgeline, and it also worked (in kitchen) even though the amsteel is bigger dia then the ccs yellow cord.
butthead	06/10/2018 09:03AM   I actually prefer some stretch in my cordage, makes for easier handling, absorbs shock loads. 1/8th or 3mm cordage is the smallest I use for comfortable handling. You are better off making whoopie type adjusters, prussicks, continuous loops, dogbones, soft shackles or using Nitize camjams.

It seems that would be hard on the cord after a while, and something about them bothers me, although i can’t explain it. I am wanting to just use knots if i can, without any hardware if i can figure it all out. It would be less to keep track of on the trip. I set it up and tore it down with the ridgeline bag. That is easy! I copied that video on youtube for my initial setup. I did already change some stuff though. That prusik knot is genius!
KarlBAndersen1	06/10/2018 03:45PM   The Tato clip on a continuous ridge line is super awesome. Centering the tarp is stupid simple and the shock cord arrangement helps with all sorts of stress. I love 'em: Tato clip

I want to avoid as many gadgets as i can, and just use cord only. That way, i have less to keep track of, less to buy, and i do like it simple! It takes less then 15 seconds to put a prusik on, and it will get left on the ridgeline forever. So easy!
SinglePortage	06/11/2018 10:41AM   I think that buying things to improve our camping "systems" is nearly as much fun as getting out there. All of the extra time spent perfecting our methods and equipment pays off in trips that run more smoothly and being prepared for whatever come our way.
HowardSprague	06/11/2018 09:38AM   I like Sterling 3 or 4mm (or 5mm?) cord for my ridgeline, and I use the yellow CCS cord & similar to tie down the rest. Seems I buy rope every time I go to Canoecopia :)
