I built one using plans from Gil Gilpatrick's book, Building Outdoor Gear. It isn't collapsible, but you can store stuff in it.

You can download plans for one here.

I built one, taking ideas from some of the many plans found here, but looks most like Old Scout's. The hinged back door for peeking at progress is its best feature. It was made out of some rather heavy aluminum sheets (the price of free material) so I hesitate before bringing it on some of our longer trips. Might need to try making another one with some lighter sheets, since we do get a kick out of using it.

I am curious how many of you have made your own reflector ovens? Anyone have plans they are willing to share?

I've made 4 or 5. I keep refining the design. Current model folds flat, 2 pieces, 2 clip pins and is just big enough to hold a standard pizza. I had plans on a pdf somewhere?....also have paper plans. reflector ovens

Ours is a Stoven. My dad made the plans and cut it all out himself. It can be a 2 burner stove, or can be converted to a reflector oven with a couple quick adjustments. Very lightweight, folds flat. I'll post more pics if interested. Also, it has our name carved out on the top, which is pretty neat.

My buddy pikehunter made one. It has a thermometer on top to keep the cooking temp correct and a rear door to rotate the food.

I thought about making one a few years back. Once I put a value on my time, I quickly ordered an Old Scout. It's a fine piece of equipment, although I have not yet used it. I ordered it a few weeks before I decided to reduce my pack weight by 50%.

There can be a lot of self pride in making one's own gear, but if you're interested, Old Scout, a member here on BWCA.com, markets a pretty darn good reflector oven that he has designed through experience.
