muddyfeet: "Gorilla tape, cord, multitool. And gear-aid tenacious tape- I’ve had silnylon field repairs stay permanent with that stuff. " +1 on the tenacious tape. It's found a permanent home in my kit now. Works to repair a leaky air mattress as well! My repair kit is now just the tenacious tape (replaced the Gorilla tape), and a small sewing kit (needle and good quality thread). I bring other items that could be used for repair, but I don't consider them part of my repair kit as they change from trip to trip like a small multitool (leatherman style ps), some cordage, extra tent pole section or repair sleeve, jet cleaner and o rings for stove, etc. Of course it depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing, and for how long. |

Savage Voyageur: "A few hot melt glue gun sticks. You can melt them with a hot pan or spoon and repair a hole in a canoe, tarp, or tent. " I love that idea, haven't heard it before! |

HowardSprague: "Just curious, for what have you guys used zip ties? Never thought about those."Haven't needed them yet in the BW, but could be used to stiffen/re-enforce a cracked paddle or thwart. Could provide a rigidity more than tape, but maybe best together. Certainly have used to fix things on vehicles. Cheap and almost weightless, so I always have some in my camera bag (better fit than my repair kit). |

-Always Gorilla or duct tape. I wrap a bunch around a pencil to save space. -Paracord. Lots of it. -Tent repair and sleeping pad repair. -hot glue sticks for shoe soles that become detached, and a host of other uses. -split rings. They are great emergency zipper pulls. -zip ties - lots of them and multiple sizes. -multi-tool. -needle and thread. Preferably pre-threaded in the needle. -Extra pack strap clips whose actual name I can't recall. But they will always break at inopportune times. -Extra nylon straps. They come in quite handy for many uses, one of which was because I forgot to wear my belt one time and got tired of pulling my pants up. -super glue. Can be used on items, can close a cut in an emergency, or can glue a broken tooth (though HIGHLY discouraged - I'd only do it if exposed nerves were excruciatingly painful) -Extra tent poles -batteries |
