Has anyone successfully repaired a hole in a sleeping pad and then had years of service out of the pad with no trouble from the repair?
The back story is I was staying at my mom's house when she had a health scare. Although I had my Exped Synmat 7 up on a high shelf to protect it the cat managed to leap that distance and put at least one hole (not sure how many it has) in the pad and it has a slow leak now.
I would like to hear back from people that have tried repairing punctures in their pad and their results before I try a repair.

I have made two repairs and never had a problem with the "patch".
1st repair was a self-inflating Thermarest. Found a small hole and patched with JB Weld. Lasted forever.
2nd repair was on a winter camping trip and had a deflated Exped Downmat at midnight. The mattress came with a repair kit patch and tube of adhesive. The patch I applied in the middle of the night got me thru. I've left it alone since then.

I had a leak in my Therm-a-Rest and rather than try to repair it myself I sent it in for them to do. I think they charged by $10 and it has never leaked since. You might check with Exped to see if they offer a similar service. At the very least they can probably recommend the most appropriate patching method.

Sealed a pinhole in a thermarest 27 years ago, it has worked perfectly ever since!!! Thermarest Deluxe Long, IIRC.

Sorry, because I'm a loser I forgot to mention that I used Seam Grip to effect the repair.

Yes, we use McNett seam grip. Have repaired and used 3 different Therms over the years with no problems. Still using the pads, repairs done at least 6 years ago.

I thought i would update this thread. I found three slits that I repaired with two patches and thought I would be golden. However there was still two more slits near the seam of the pad and I tried to repair that area. After I used one patch for that area I tested the pad for air retention. It would not hold air and I decided it was best I buy a new pad. I was pretty bummed as I really liked my Exped pad and I knew REI no longer carried it.
Went to REI to try out pads on a couple of occasions. I just couldn't find a pad that at 2.5" or less would be very comfortable no matter the manufacturer. I'm a side sleeper and never fully inflate a pad. I bought the Nemo Tensor air pad as it at 3" felt better than all pads in the light weight category at the store.
It came with a small schnozzle bag, stuff sack and Velcro strap to keep the pad rolled when storing it in the stuff sack. I was impressed with this Nemo product. The wife used it on a backpack trip we did and did not report any comfort issues.

I have an Exped Synmat that leaked on a trip to Quetico this year. Later I patched three holes but would not hold air. I sent it to Exped and they found seven holes caused by our cat. They repaired it expertly and had it back to me in time for a different trip. I cannot say enough about Exped customer service!

It comes down to if I repair it and it fails I sleep on the hard ground and the wife gets the usable sleeping pad...

Simple visible holes can be patched as described. I did a field repair on a BA insulated air pad with just Tenacious Tape that held for a few years till a seam went. Seams are a different problem as well as blown baffles, these need factory service or replacement.
