MPOWERED/LUCI product list - they are offering 2 for 1. The String Lights are hot...... (and I don't work for MPOWERED or have any affiliation with them) . |

These caught my eye at Copia, so with an REI dividend and nothing new desired, added 2 of these to my bunch. Advertised 32+ hour duration lowest setting and USB chargeable. Similar size and weight to the Luci. Will add field use times and comparison after they get some use. I am a fan of M-Powered Luci, own 1/2 dozen. Some bought when first on the market. The Luci's came in handy during 3 power stoppages over winter. Will add field use times after they get some use. I have a variety of Goal Zero panels and power packs, appreciate the quality. butthead |

WhiteWolf: "Not to hijack the thread- but the thread got me doing research / comparison on the 3 different solar powered companies (MPOWERED or LUCI / LUMINAID / and GOAL ZERO) that I own and I was just curious how they compare and contrast. On the Whitewolf...thanks for the heads-up on the Luci Lights. I just picked up a couple... Great deal! |

FishCamper: "Okay, I'm going to butt in here with a related but very different question: I would find a light left on in a campsite all night very irritating, whether I was staying in the site or if I was staying in a site nearby and could see it. Light in the campsite just separates us from the night. It keeps us from seeing the stars because our eyes cannot fully adjust to the dark. A lighted campsite visible across a lake introduces something into the BWCA night environment that isn't normally there. Who wants to go all the way into canoe country and see artificial light all night across the lake? |

FishCamper: "Okay, I'm going to butt in here with a related but very different question: It ever crossed my mind to leave a light of some sort on in camp while I slept. My guess is if bears smell anything like food and don't see people moving about, they will come to sniff around light or not. |

butthead: ""Who wants to go all the way into canoe country and see artificial light all night across the lake?" You are right. These devices probably wouldn't be an issue if people used them wisely and responsibly. But as we know through hard experience that probably won't be the case. On a related topic, I am really glad I haven't encountered one of those lighted tents the gear companies are pushing. Looks like a solution looking for a problem. They seem like overkill. |

Recently I was thinking about problems of bears and other critters at night, in the campsight. And I thought... what if I put some low-intensity lights out at night, in the campsight (as in, while we are sleeping). It sounds to me like you golks use your lanterns for your awake hours; or am I wrong about that? Any thoughts on the good or bad of leaving lights on all night in the campsight? |

If it's a solar light such as Luci or Crush, on low they are about slightly brighter than a candle lantern , just enough to read by and I noticed no extra attraction for bugs (may be something to do with the LED light). Far less noticable than a small fire in the camp grates. Thru trees and brush, hardly noticed from 50 yards away. butthead |

andym: "Thanks. They do like a good option. I like the usb charging to make sure I enter with a full battery. " Big reason I added them. The Luci's proved valuable with the power blackouts over the last 3 years. 3 transformers damaged by car accidents, 2 ice storm causes. The Crush should make even better home backups because of the charging ability. butthead |

andym: "Do you mean the Goal Zero Crush Lantern?" Had a link to the Crush but wiped it when posting, yes the Goal Zero Crush. Original post edited, thanks! butthead |

The Luci in the photos is an original and oldest I have. Newer Outdoor 2.0 is 4.4 ounces, Outdoor+ 2.0 with USB 6.4 ounces. Same light output the + version has a larger battery. butthead |
