I think the Brewer has a different, less grippy outsole. It is more of a casual shoe. Probably good for around camp, but for wetfooting landings, I'd want something more grippy, like the Trek or Mesh models."
I dunno, I have a pair of the Brewers and they grip really well. If they have something that grabs more that is amazing

Try Soft Science. Very comfortable sole, a little sticky, drain and dry well, light weight. Multiple styles. I have the high tops, the deck shoes, and recently the canvas top style.

I paid $130 for this shoe at Canoecopia this year. Get it for $78.00 at Mountainsteals Mens Astral TR1 Trek shoe Only sizes 9.5, 10, and 12
Drain holes and great non stick sole. It's perfect for day trips or fishing. I love the shoe and take a 12 so am kicking myself right now.
Some people say these run a little narrow. I think if you're a 1/2 size smaller than their sizes you would be fine. Thick wool socks with these might be a problem if you order your correct size. I'll be bringing a thin pair of wool socks to wear with mine.

flynn: "Astrals are awesome. I don't know about narrow, they have a huge toebox and I have wide feet and found no issue with them. The outsole is VERY sticky and they are excellent for portaging as they will grip slippery rocks when wetfooting like nobody's business. I love mine and highly recommend them."
Yeah I think it’s gonna make a great camp shoe and doing short portage day trips with a light pack. I wouldn’t use them with heavy loads bc there’s no real ankle support.

I don't find ankle support necessary in the case of BW portaging or hiking (took them on 2 trips last year and a rugged 3day hike in SHT). I have had a few close calls, but the ability to freely articulate my ankle has made me very nimble and stable. There were some areas on portages last year with slanted rock faces and whatnot that would have required bending my knees or twisting my body in ways that may have made me a little unstable (due to a higher boot restricting how much I can angle my foot and leave my leg upright) but because I could articulate my ankle, I had no issues accommodating the steep terrain. I think this is a personal thing and if you have already rolled your ankles and damaged them, you are at a higher risk for doing it again. But, I have not rolled my ankles in maybe 15 years and prefer the mobility anyway. As a bonus, trail runners dry quicker, especially the mesh-y ones like what Astral offers.

Just bought the Astral TR Mesh, or whatever they are called. I've been out on a few practice walks and they feel good. The Treks fit me a little tight in towards the heel. Every foot is different I guess.

I think the Brewer outsole is pretty flat but might be sticky. I really like how grippy my Meshes are.
