I have several Black Diamond SPOT headlamps. I once considered the STORM but, read a lot of reviews that noted at bright setting the headlamp emitted a high-pitched whine or buzz.

I get nearly 2 years out of each SPOT before the headband gets too stretched to be effective. I once sat down to place an order for replacement headbands but with shipping it was cheaper to replace the whole headlamp...this is why I have several.

Loss of night vision is temporary. Solution is easy; turn off your light and sit tight for a few minutes. Decent headlamps have vast control over the quantity and spread of light. If you want less dim it down or opt for the red light (it does work in limiting night vision loss). The challenge is trying to remember what combination of clicks on the single switch gives what result.

I do like the two Storm Headlamps I have, sorry to hear the most recent version has gone downhill.

I have really liked the Storm 350 and previous versions. Have two 350's and one older. apparently the 375 is a flop with the battery life being just dismal.

1. anyone have an idea if Black Diamond is doing something to fix the issues?
2. Suggest an alternate headlamp meeting following requirements:

AAA batteries
300 + Lumens
Red Light mode
Long throw
Lamp is able to be angled down with included strap

yes, that is the reason for the red light.

I never bought into the idea that red light won't ruin your night vision. Maybe it is slightly better, but a little LED on your hat is just as good except you can bring things closer to see full detail. I like it when playing cards so I can see my hand even if the hanging light is a little dim.

Personally I never liked headlamps all that much. If I want a bright light then I will bring a torch light. My go to for a head mounted light is a LED hat. I recently bought a BWCA one from this site and am happy with it. You don't need that much light to get around, and too much will ruin your night vision.
